Lent 2022: We Will Walk in the Light by Elsie Scott

“The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

-John 1:4-5

We Will Walk in the Light

For the past two years, we have been living through a period of darkness where we often have struggled to see the light. If we had known in 2019 about the darkness through which we would live in 2020 and 2021, would we have been more repentant? Would we have been more serious about preparing our hearts and minds for the death and suffering that was to come? Would we have spent more time in prayer? In meditation? Doing good deeds? Showing more love to our sisters and brothers?

Since God has spared us, we must use this period of Lent, to be more reflective. Let us reflect on how Jesus prepared for the cross. Let us seek a deeper relationship with God, not looking for rewards, but appreciating the light God has brought to us. We must look for joy and light every day, regardless of the circumstances through which we are living. We must help to bring light into the lives of others, as Christ has brought into our lives.

Prayer

Lord, help us to resist temptations. If there are patches of darkness, please help us to see the light and know that the light is there, and it will not be extinguished. Amen.
