Prepare Your Heart
"As he preached he said, “The real action comes next: The star in this drama, to whom I’m a mere stagehand, will change your life. I’m baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. His baptism—a holy baptism by the Holy Spirit—will change you from the inside out.” At this time, Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. The moment he came out of the water, he saw the sky split open and God’s Spirit, looking like a dove, come down on him. Along with the Spirit, a voice: “You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life.”
Mark 1: 7-11
Next, Jesus finds himself pushed out into the wilderness for 40 days and nights being tempted by Satan. Proclaiming “God’s Kingdom is here,” he then travels to begin his teaching. He chooses his Apostles, teaches, heals people, casts out evil spirits, and talks to societies’ outcasts, giving freely to people. He clashes with religious leaders who plan to talk to Herod’s followers to ruin him. He is betrayed, condemned, and crucified, to rise again.
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for sending your Son to us to teach us how to live. Prepare our hearts as we move through this Lenten season to let the Holy Spirit be our guide. Amen.
