Lent 2022: Do You Believe in Miracles? by Ellen Fizer

“…that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

-1 Corinthians 15:3,4

Do You Believe in Miracles?

The Apostles’ Creed is the Christian’s affirmation of faith, the epitome of what we believe. During Advent, we focused on the words, “born of a virgin Mary.” We celebrated the miraculous conception and birth of our Lord and Savior.

In today’s world, it is sometimes difficult to believe in miracles. Maybe because the realities of life give us little hope. Life itself seems to be fraught with so much destruction and despair.

The Apostles’ Creed continues with … “suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried.” Oh, but here comes the truly miraculous part, “… on the third day He arose from the dead…”

If we could only believe in miracles; if we only had the faith to believe. There is a song entitled, “If You Believe in Miracles.” Over the years, it has been recorded by several artists and there are several versions with different lyrics. But one version contains these lyrics:

If you believe in miracles now

We can change the world around

It all begins with one

That’s how the battle’s won

It’s time to believe.

During this Lenten season, it is time to believe.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help us to believe that you still perform miraculous works. Amen
