“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
John 14:27
Second Sunday of Advent
December 10, 2023
The second candle of Advent is Peace. Peace can be personal--your mind and your heart are in a state of tranquility with a good relationship with God. Peace can be universal--a state of no wars. Peace can also be relational--the absence of violence, chaos in personal relationships.
Individuals are wrestling with internal demons that do not allow them to be happy or content and that sometimes lead them to attempt to take their own lives and the lives of their loved ones. During Advent we must make a special effort to have personal peace. Practice daily meditations, focusing on our inner peace and our relationship with our creator.
We are experiencing international wars, climate disasters and domestic chaos and terrorism. We must pray for world leaders, antagonists, and innocent people. Pray for the strength of wise people to stay strong and step forth as leaders.
Families, neighbors, and communities are at war over simple and complex issues. Families are being torn apart by things that used to be considered trivial and insignificant. Use this season to strengthen personal relationships, spending quality time with loved ones.

Prayer: Lord, we pray for peace of mind and heart. Remove the worries, impatience, evil, jealousy, envy, hatred, fear, and sin that are preventing us from recognizing and receiving your gift of peace. Amen.
