And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my savior, for he has
been mindful of the humble state of his servant.”
Luke 1: 46-48
December 22, 2023
As soon as Thanksgiving is over, I feel the exciting rush of Christmas preparation, in anticipation
of celebrating the birth of Jesus, while preparing for family and friends. I remember the
excitement of my sons as children, and the enjoyment of watching my grandchildren trying to
understand what is going on!
Christmas time is an opportunity to engage in the Christmas story as shared with us in the
Bible. Using my holy imagination, my mind becomes a camera recording Mary, Joseph, the
baby Jesus, the Angel of the Lord announcing his birth, shepherds in the field, a bright shining
star guiding the Magi, Herod and the family’s escape to Egypt to save the life of our savior.
Christmas also makes me remember that although I have faced trials and tribulations, I am
grateful for the many blessings I have had in my life. Thankful, I must ask myself how I can be
a part of bringing more light into the world.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for sending your son to be a light in this world. May we work together
to let his light shine for all humanity to appreciate the gift of our world and live together as
neighbors in peace. Amen
