"And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having
enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work."
2 Corinthians 9:8 NRSVUE
Fifteenth Day After Christmas
It is a human tendency to try to safeguard the future. We feel more in control if we think we
can guarantee that we will have everything we need down the road. There is nothing wrong
with insurance policies or savings accounts, but ultimately, none of us can control what the
future holds.
In Jesus’ prayer, He speaks of “daily bread,” not weekly, not monthly, and not yearly. God
sent the Israelites manna to collect each morning. Food spoiled when they tried to stockpile it
for the next day. God promises to give us exactly what we need for the day ahead. Day by
day, He meets our needs for physical and spiritual food. God wants us to depend only on
Him, each day of our lives, believing that He will give us exactly what we need. That is what
it means to walk by faith.

Prayer: You make me sufficient Lord, You, give me enough of everything I need-to carry out Your will. Truth be told, You, often supply much more than I need. These blessings are wonderful surprises that I do not want to take for granted. Show me ways that I can share Your blessings with others. You are a good giver, Lord. Thank You. Amen.
